tylercoates:

Last night Gwyneth Paltrow took a third nationally televised awards show as an opportunity to remind us that she can sing. People hated it! People tolerated it! I’m somewhere in the middle. Look, Gwynnie is the worst, we all know that, and it’s sort of redundant at this point to keep bringing that up, if only because it seems to fuel someone’s desire to let her keep doing the shit that she wants to do. We are enablers, America!

I feel like it is my duty to say that while Gwyneth is a fine singer and it is impressive that she can perform on live TV, she pales, pales, pales in comparison to Sissy Spacek, who won an Oscar for her portrayal of Loretta Lynn in Coal Miner’s Daughter. Not only did she sing the songs herself, but she sang those songs like an actual country singer, which is a feat that Gwyneth Paltrow has yet to pull off (apparently inserting a little bit of twang is hard, you guys!). I don’t think Sissy sang any of the songs at the Oscars in 1981 (probably because the film didn’t have an original song to be nominated for an award), but she probably could have, since she was a singer before she was an actress. Not that I’m trying to give her props for having a second skill that, in the long run, is not that impressive (so you can carry a tune! hurray!); I’m just saying that Sissy Spacek is awesome and Gwyneth Paltrow is still a jerk.
